Exploring the relationship between the figurative and the abstract plays an important part in Carole’s artwork. As she experiments, she is constantly fascinated with the new realities that emerge beyond the surfaces of what is seen.

The world around her is her inspiration. The ordinary, the decayed and dilapidated buildings and spaces, the discarded, the proximity between old and new in our cities and the changing social interactions within them. Or the accident of light, shadow and texture that create their own beauty as shapes, forms, atmosphere and energy combine to create new visual realities. What appeals to Carole is how many different interpretations an abstract painting can have allowing people to come to life and let their imaginations go.

Painting is Carole’s main media but she also experiments with an array of found materials which she works with intuitively to create collages, reliefs or mixed media sculptures. She is inspired by the energy of geometric forms, abstract expressionism and vorticist styles of painting.
